The Scanning Methods of Led Display

Usually when customers buy LED display screens, they will always hear the salesperson introduce the LED display screen is 1/8 scan or 1/4 scan, so what does this “scan” mean? It actually refers to the scanning methods of the LED display. What are the scanning methods of led display? There are two scanning methods for the LED display: static and dynamic. Dynamic scanning is divided into 1/2 scan, 1/4 scan, 1/8 scan, 1/16 scan, 1/32 scan , etc.

Static: The static display has high brightness, suitable for outdoor use. Its method is to individually supply power to a single LED lamp. In this way, each pixel has enough drive current, and the brightness is relatively high.

1/2 scan: The brightness of the 1/2 scan display is lower than that of the static display, suitable for outdoor and semi-outdoors. Its method is equivalent to the current that was originally supplied to a single LED lamp to supply two LED lamp at the same time. The current is continuously scanned between the two LED lamp , and the scanning frequency reaches 100 times per second. That means, the current is supplied to one lamp in the first 1/100 second, and the other lamp is supplied in the next 1/100 second. These two LED lamp keep on and off repeatedly, but the visual persistence effect of the human eye makes us not aware of this process, and we naturally think that it is always on. As long as the scanning frequency reaches more than 64 times per second, the human eye cannot distinguish.

1/4 scan: The brightness of 1/4 scan is only half of 1/2 scan, suitable for semi-outdoor and indoor. Its working principle is the same as 1/2 scan, but the LED lamp beads are supplied with four at the same time.

1/8 scan, 1/16 scan: The brightness of 1/8 scan is half of 1/4 scan, and the brightness of 1/16 scan is half of 1/8. Because the brightness is too low, generally only Suitable for indoor screen use.

Advantages/disadvantages of static drive:

Advantages: The connection between LED display components is simple, all LEDs can be connected in series with only 5-6 wires, which is convenient for debugging and maintenance; the display brightness is high, and suitable driving components can drive LEDs under 2 meters, suitable for outdoor large numbers Screen.

Disadvantages: Each LED needs 1-2 drive ICs, and a display component PCB board needs to be made; the power consumption is large; the cost is high.

Advantages/disadvantages of dynamic driver:

Advantages: The display drive circuit is simple, two ICs can drive 8 LEDs below 10″, and the cost is low; LEDs of various sizes can be directly connected to the main control board, drive board, and expansion board, even without PCB board; Low power consumption, using time-sharing scanning display mode, power consumption is only 1/5 of static driving.

Disadvantages: There are many connections between the LED and the driver board, which is inconvenient to operate during installation and maintenance of the connection.
